Size Constancy

Despite the fact that objects closer to our eyes appear larger than if they were further away, our perception of the object is relatively constant. 
Although the man in this photo looks like he is as tall as the eiffel tower we can perceive that the eiffel tower is much taller. We initially sense that he is taller because the image is larger on our retina than the image of the tower.
